I have a set of 1980 XJ650 Maxim carbs that I want to modify to use with a 1982 XJ750 Maxim engine. Aside from rejetting, are there any other modifications I need to make to the carbs themselves?

I'm thinking that the 650 carbs(probably 32mm) will be too small for a 750 (probably need 34mm carbs). Which would lead to extensive rejetting to run right and probably lessen the fuel economy, but I could be wrong.
If it was me, I would sell the 650 carbs and buy the 750 carbs which I think would be easier considering they are still cv carbs .
BTW if you haven't done carbs before, you better read the carb posts on the site because they can be a giant PITA!

Both the 650, and 750 use the hitachi HS32 carbs. The only difference is in the jetting.

Check with Chacal (XJ4ever) to get the correct ones.

Thanks for the insight. I'm still relatively new around here - is XJ4ever a forum member or a supplier?

Also, I'll have to reject to additionally account for the open pipes on my bike. I was going to consult the following thread for the how-to on that one, unless you guys have a better source in mind: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14692.html

Chacal is the resident parts supplier. You can click the XJ4ever banner at the top of every page to get to his catalog. Fast service, Correct parts. Highly recommended.

    Fair warning!
You will also find more information than you may ever want to know about your bike there.

Pay real close attention to that thread you posted. Very good info along with the other posts he has.

another fair warning... You can probably buy a decent shape set of 750 carbs for WAY cheaper than ALL the jets you need to buy to convert the 650 to run a 750...

With a nonstock bike he's most likely buying jets anyway.
