I know. Dude's flying down burnt valve avenue with no brakes, rejetting as he goes. And there's a lady pushing a baby carriage across the street.

About three thousand miles from now (if that) it's gonna be "my bike won't start once warm."

I may be forced to break XJBikes LAW #2. I'm close enough I can ride past doing the "Princess Wave."

Burnt Valve Avenue, just off of the intersection of Time Road and Money Boulevard.

    It's a rough neighborhood.....

You jam a lot of info into one sentence don't you????? :) I missed it too. I read it as "I set the floats check valves" (... meaning the needle and seat,) and cleaned carbs.
    Glad they are set!

Ah, my girlfriend does the same.
a computer will never be a phone, and a phone will never be a computer. They might like you to think that... and bill you so, but it will never be. At least not this year!!!

Ahh, OK, my apologies. I too thought you were talking about the float valves.

    What clearances did you find?

    Dude; LAAME.

"Your Uncle says they're fine" is what I'm hearing. Yeah, and a dog ate my homework. An airplane landed on the freeway.

Here's the deal: I don't know if you're afraid to check your valves because the procedure seems too complicated, or what. But you can't "pretend it away."

    Here's the simple truth:

The valves get tighter with the miles. They need to be checked every 5000 miles, and any that have gone out of spec brought back into spec. Chances are, Previous Owners ignored this like you are insistent upon doing.

If you don't do this, eventually a valve or two, or three, or five, will only be fully closed when the motor is cold. Once the motor warms up, one or more won't be able to actually close fully like it should. If it happens to be an exhaust valve, it will then "burn" (literally) and fail. It could even drop its severed head into the combustion chamber and beat a nice hole in the top of your piston before you could get the motor shut off.

I'm not making stuff up; check my sig and look in my gallery.

So you go ahead; ride the bloody thing until you blow it up. But if you come asking for advice when you do, I won't be dispensing any. I'm done with this one; I thought you were serious about being able to actually USE this bike, long-term, if you could get it running.

Apparently not. And my seemingly limitless patience has run out.

After about three thousand more miles (IF,) when it won't hot-start anymore, ask your Uncle what's wrong. Not me.

    Fitz out.

You know, I'm reading through this thread and it's just like me talking to my son sometimes......"Did you check through your work?'".......... "well, yeah...".............."did you?'.............."well, not really".........so that's why you got a "C" and not the "A" you wanted/needed... Seems to me that the old rule of "do it yourself and do it right" has been ignored here. Checking your valves is time consuming when you first do it...with practice, you will improve and, most importantly, you will learn. Only now, you've managed to really annoy BigFitz...and that is not a good thing.....At 60, I continually learn new things and do new things.....I am truly thankful for all the folks out there that have made stupid mistakes and have the heart to tell us so that we don't do the same thing!! Now wise up and check the valves yourself....

And my original recommendation still stands. Sell the bike to someone who will take proper care of it and buy a moped. You are either too stupid or too lazy (or both) to own an old bike like this.

HEY! I found a 1969 Honda PC50 moped i can sell you! I even cleaned out the gas tank and the engine. All you need to do is find a carb and a spark plug lead!

To check your valves you need a screw driver, an allen tool, a wrench, and a feeler gauge. The valve holder tool is $12 on ebay, and I'm sure you can get the shims and everything you need from chacal in 2 days. Ask your uncle what the specs were for all 8 valves. If he doesn't know or didn't write them down why bother even doing it.

    That was too funny.
You need to check your valves if you haven't got that done.
I did mine a couple of months ago, it wasn't bad at all. Just a little time consuming but now they are all adjusted correctly, and I have the clearances written down for future trend monitoring. The bike is sooo fast it'll make the snot fly out of your nose. no lie. 8)
