    Greetings All:

Does anyone know if the steering stem on a 1982 xj750 maxim is pressed in or welded? (fork tree stem) I'm not seeing welds but thought I'd ask. Plus I didn't see anything in my repair manual.

    Thank you!

    Jason

Check the bottom of the lower tree, I believe it is pressed in then welded on the bottom. I know it was welded on my XJ550, and the XV750 front end that I put on the 550. Ended up taking both lower trees to a machine shop to get the stems swapped.

Thanks. I did check the bottom. Welds are amazing compared to the HD wideglide I'm about to put on it. I plan on recycling and utilizing the the xj stem in the HD tree. I working on a writeup. Thanks.
