has anybody ever rode or ridden with one of these? My Father in law has one and we rode out for a while today.
He laid it so low he spaked the center stand on the pavement and....
I can ride ok, I dont miss and I can shift it out without wasting but this dnam SCOOTER ate my lunch.
I broke my speedo so all I got is tach and I was in 5th at 5.5 to 6 grand coming down a long slow dropping slow curving country road, when it started to straight I came on with the juice then he did and pulled steadily away. A SCOOTER!?!?
Somebody tell me you if you know anything about these things.

This "scooter" is a two cylinder, 582cc, liquid cooled, automatic, disc brake (with ABS), around 80mpg (I think) motorcycle with floorboards LOL

I have a friend who has one. Think it is a 600 cc. Says it can easily coast along with motorcycles and goes up to 120 or so. I imagine there is a large weight difference

That either means you gotta give it up to the Old Man, or you need to clean your carbs !!

I had the older GL500 Silverwing which would move OK if you wound it up real tight.

This one is only a coupe of years old, he rode the dragon on it this year.
And this one dont need to wind up, off line it may keep up with an R1!
I still dont believe it. But yeah he RODE it too. He was grinding the curve, I watched it happen. Never seen a scooter do that before.
Motorcyce with floor boards is more like it.
So does this get me expelled from the kingdom?

Could be a sleeper scooter-somebody swapped it's 600cc for a Vmax plant! Or the old man's hiding some nitrous somewhere.

Oh and you better send a busload of food if your giving someone a teenager-a few years ago I could eat a whole large pizza by myself, now 3 slices and I'm topped.

Or maybe just rev the XJ a little more toward redline; if your bike is running properly you should have been able to grab a gear (or two) and do what I like to call "rocketing into the distance."

Yeah my baby is running great, valves clearences are perfect, carbs churched and built CORRECTLY, both racks (one ready and waiting)
no this thing is not really a scooter It'll pull the speedo fully (registers 120).
I can catch him but only after he gets all its got, once I get to 8.5k I gain (but was gonna run out road to hold that) off the line though and lower speeds he's just gone ike it DID have nos.
This thing is not what what it seems and the old man can ride it too.
I'm going over there today....(to be continued)

Hehe... The Silverwing is a beast of a scooter, uup there with the Suzuki Burgmans..
600CC (582) .. the step through design classifies it as a scooter ...

The Maxi scoots do perform well. I did a test ride of a Piaggio BV250 a few years ago, a scoot with 17" tires.. and it surprised me.....quick , quiet and responsive (and PRICEY!!)

And yes it is the 2nd in the Honda line to bear that name, it's not the old Silverwing (GL500), baby brother of the Goldwing

He didnt wanna play today. I still coudnt believe this thing, and untill you see it you it's hard to believe or even imagine for that matter. 0 to 60 in half my best possible time. I bet it would probably do pretty close to an 11 second quarter mile. There are those that will not believe me on that but it is what it is, this is a bad scooter. I'd almost ride it (almost)

Come on now. You gotta put that wacky stuff down and come back down. Your 0-60 time (around 4.8sec) is only slightly slower than a twin-turbo charged Porsche-only a top-fuel dragster, a purpose built bracket machine, or a nitrous based drag bike is twice as fast in that interval. If that scooter is that fast then there is a bored and stroked 427 hiding under that plastic! Or its poof the magic scooter.

I know yall dont believe me, and I didn't have a stop watch per se but Im tellin you I have NEVER seen or even heard of a scooter that takes off and runs like this thing. Its not really a scooter I wont accept that just a scooter will do this but Im tellin you Ive taken out a couple a couple of bikes around town, at red ights I commonly put every thing around me in the mirrors quickly and he is faster than me.
At deals gap he was tryin to burn the fenders off of goldwings and harley's
i cant say what his actaul times are but they are indeed faster than a 650 seca... at least as it stands right now anyway
youd just have to see this thing ROCKET off the line, its an insane scooter
If I had not seen it myself I would never believe it and I was not playin puss either I was ridin like the police was on me and I had a kilo tapped to fender
I guess its like big foot untill you actually see it.....

Not sure what year model the old man has but this is from a review of a 2010 model:

Site says HP is around 50 and weight is around 550 wet.

Now like I said-Old man is hiding the nitrous somewhere!

why would you think you could beat him, he's got about 30 years of technology on you, you think those guys at honda been asleep 30 years ? guess what, he's probably got better brakes than you, better lights and a better ride too. is it a automatic with a chain, you got a clutch and a shaft drive. you have radial tires on your seca?
do those things have FI ?
you got to know where to pick your fights and
remember it's all fun and games till someone gets hurt

Well obviously the old man slapped a turbo on the beast scooter! ;)
    Pushing 40 psi! ;) hahaha

But in all seriousness I've seem a lot of guys around my neck of the woods rocket around on those things! And it is fun and games until someone gets hurt, but sometimes you need to live life on the edge! It is human nature to compete, and the adrenaline rush from pulling on the throttle is great. But understand the risks you take, and understand they can bite!

And anyways, to me, handling is way more fun than top speed.

yeah I know, it's my father-in-law so it wont get out of hand. We are going to "the last ride of the year" 12/30/2011 in Alabama, we'll play a little while then (never crazy though at the end of the day I have a wife I need to come home to in one piece not to mention I wont just kill my Seca to prove a useless point) and I know I had more to give and didn't, when I did push up 8.5k I let back off, I think I coud have caught him....will catch him.
just off the line hes got me thats that.
If I really wanted to get crazy Id uncage the 1100, The seca is just a way better ride overall. We just pick and play really And that was the first time the old man let the old days come out again, Im actually glad he did too and the man is no slouch, he can ride.
You can go to the moonshine site thing for the tai of the dragon pics of this year and see him on the scoot.... layin it low
I know the tech stuff is a world of difference but im tellin you 105 max is B.S.! oh yeah it IS EFI

SKW---it ain't no scooter even though Honda lists it as one. 50 BHP is more then the famous RD350 of the old days that used to spank CB750's on curvy roads. It has a automatic tranny which holds it back on one hand but in the right hands, it's always engaged so speed can be reo-stat like if the rider knows how to stay on it. The times from the factory were in the 15+ range...fyi

Po has a very good point...we used to stay in a lot of races by doing one thing better then the other teams....we would still be on the gas while they were hitting the brakes....chances are, your boy is of the same ilk. Beware of wiley old men....we love eating young'uns<LOL>

Seriously though, there was a guy, Yellowwolf or Yellowknife who for years straffed Ducs and other pure "race" bikes at the Gap and a couple other famous roads .......he would absolutely humiliate them......on his GOLD WING, fully dressed!! No sh*t!

No telling what your guy has done to his bike but don't lure him into trouble.....I'm telling you that it would tear you up inside if you did, and something bad happened to him because he wasn't ready for "your road". I'm just trying to A. keep him alive and B. keep you from making a possible mistake that you'll have to live with.....it just isn't worth it.

By all means hang around with him, no doubt he'll make you a better rider....

    jeff

yeah i know bro, he knows that road anyway and he ate it up.
All jokes aside Im out classed skill wise and he my paw-in-law, Id never ever do anything to get him hurt (he's crazy enough on his own!)
And yes hes ot alot of experience I can learn from have been plan to continue
still just couldnt get my head around how fast that thing is but once opened up I could take the lead. Why though? If nothin else the man is relivin his glory what kind of as***le would wanna pop that bubble really?
but to be clear. I did NOT give him anything he rode it hard and true just like a real old pro. impressive really

I know an old guy at work that has a Custom Harley Evo, a new Harley Sportster and a Silver wing that he calls "Scooty", with a strange, far-off look in in his eyes.
He has a ZZ Top beard and Harley tats but will freely admit that he spends more time on Scooty...

I know why too. .... andf I found out recenty my paw-in-law used to race semi pro like in the 70's. Nice to know now. His skill sets far exceed my own, I like riding with him and I actually ike him to take point.
hoping maybe Ill see some xj'ers at the stage coach this year, if so you wont miss my black and white seca. my gallery has some pics but they aren't current, its evovled but youll notice it as an xj when you see it if you come.
I know some other xj'ers live close enough to it to make it just googe "Last Ride of the Year" at The Stage Coach Inn. any body in the southeast region around Alabama/Georgia/Florida
I dont what he calls his but I ca the old man pretty cool
