Bobby, is the second picture a close up of the bicycle frame ?
You have to get the height x width right, but also the pixel count.

I found a walkthrough on how to do it on photoshop once and it didn't work. Ive tried a few different things myself and it never worked. I suppose it cant hurt to try again.

the easiest way is to use www.shrinkpictures.com. Browse to the the picture on your machine, select custom and specify 90, and use good quality which will keep the file size low. Hasn't failed me yet and takes one minute.

Are wanting to use just the red bike as your avatar?

This one should work if that's the image you want-The images have to be no bigger than 90pixels width or length and 6Kb or less in size.

You should be able to use the direct link

For those with Photoshop, the amount of colors used is the key in getting it small. By default on a .gif it is 256, but for avatars you can get by with 60-80 and it shouldn't look much different.

Use Microsoft Paint, it's really easy to just resize a picture. Then check the file size of the output.

Maybe4 - I gave it a shot and it told me that they couldn't do that file type

MercuryMan - I was going for a "History of Bob" kind of thing with my childhood bike up front and my big boy bikes in the back but if the picture you gave me WORKS I'll use it.

Andrew - If MercuryMans picture doesn't work I'll try that.

Iandmac - That didn't work for me.

You bet BB, my pleasure to help. Here's a link to the software I use-It's totally free and works wonders. You can do just about anything you need to any image.

Links to your two original photo's with the big brothers in the pic

The only problem with avatars is they are so small that the picture needs to be really clear and have good contrast so you can clearly see the image. If the subject is dark and the background is light that works well.

I think the second pic works pretty good
