I Have a XJ650J equiped with an 750 engine from a XJ750J. what i would like to know is are there any alternatives offered that are manufactured
today. The question is not about c/s vs pod usage i have already satisfied myself on that topic. I just want alternatives that can come with a warrenty and have the shiny new box look incase my current hitachi
    set cannot be rebuilt.

Do you mean new replacement Hitchi CV carbs, like the HS32s?

No, but there are all sorts of carbs available; however the "availability" is a matter of cubic dollars. I doubt you'll find anything manufactured today to be a straight "bolt up" replacement for the originals.

If your set can't be rebuilt, then the best bet would be to grab a more rebuildable set off eBay and rebuild those.

yeah i am talking about bolt on applications that wont require fabrication.
i just wanted something updated but its ok the hitachi one will most likely
    be rebuildable.

I am leaning twords a 100% factory stock rebuild but you know what they say about bridges and crossing

    thanks

You don't have to stay 100% factory stock; it's possible to make quite a few real upgrades to the bike without sacrificing anything in the process, and have the bike still look "stock."

The best of both worlds is a perfectly tuned stock powertrain with upgraded suspension, brakes, tires, seat and other little "modernizations." You can lose the clunky Yamaha turn signals in favor of contemporary Yamaha-styled signals, and they just "look right" even though not stock at all. You can also carefully "accessorize" and make other little cosmetic changes that LOOK perfectly Yamaha but didn't come with the bike.

Look closely at my black bike, you'll see what I mean.

Bluemister - when you did the motor swap, did you use 750 carbs, or did you re-jet the 650's to 750 specs??

After reading your blog and seeing the pics -
If you want to have dual disc front brakes and need a tank and wire harness, you should keep your eye on Craigslist for a "dead" and untitled Maxim 750 that's within 300 miles of you.

But first, you should do the compression test next.
