    For a 1982 XJ650(4KO)

Long shot - but does anyone have a good second hand one ?

Needs to be sent to the UK.

Will have supplier's babies or at least pay a fair price.

    Cheers

Yes, I have more than one used piston available. Actually there are four pistons in a good running spare engine with 23,000 miles. From a 1980 xj650 Maxim engine case # 4H7-111947. I can't guarantee it's the same part for 1982, please verify. If necessary, we can contact Chacal for help with verification.

I'll ship to UK. Also, before shipping I could send high resolution photos if you want.

What's your best offer? Plus shipping (from 98296) of course.

I just want you two to be sure you're on the same page.

The Thread Title indicates you are seeking an OVER-SIZED Piston.

    2 O/S .50mm (Over Standard)

    2nd Oversize .50mm Over Standard

    4H7-11636-00-00
    PISTON (2ND O/S 0.50MM)
    ALTERNATE PART
    NLA

This size Piston is somewhat rare.

I was curious what 2 O/S stood for. Yep, different page and part in this case. Thanks!

Just to clarify - Rick is right it is a +.50 piston I need.

Had four good second hand ones plus new rings, took them to the machine shop to have the block bored out, when I went back the guy was very sorry he had drop a piston and broken the land on the skirt !

So I have a nicely bored ( for nothing ) block, three pistons and four set of rings

    Chacal has a,

HCP5543 OEM cast aluminum bare PISTON, for all XJ650 (except Turbo) engines, 2nd oversize (= +0.50mm), each:
    $ 79.00

but I was just looking for a good second hand one if there was one about.

As rare as reboring these engines was, if Len has a new one for you, jump on it.

Honestly, you're not likely to find a used one for just that reason; and most NOS sources I'm familiar with want one heck of a lot more money than that for one.

I can point you to a place that has (9) of them in stock... at $152.50 EACH.

Although I would assume you're going to make Mr. "Oops, I dropped it" pick up the tab?

If the Machine Shop Employee caused irreparable damage to your Part while in their possession because they dropped the part, ... they have admitted to not exercising due care.

They are obliged to "Make you whole" for the result of their negligence.

They are INSURED for such incidents.

    THEY ... owe ... YOU ... a Piston.

Their responsibility to reimburse you for the damage done is also a matter of Common Law. In that your delivering property to them for repair in consideration for a fee charged and expected to be paid, ... results in a Bailment.

Specifically, ... A "Mutual Benefit Bailment".

Agreed, however we discussed the best way round this, either he tried to sourced a replacement piston ( he checked will his contacts when the accident happened to no avail ) or he wavered the £90 ( $138 ) cost to re-bore, and let me try and find a replacement.
Thought the later was best as I know more sites ( like this ) to try and find one.
    I can find, 1 O/S 0.25 piston - 3 O/S 0.75 piston and 4 O/S and 1.00 piston

However, I did not think a .50 piston would be as rare as rocking horse poo.
