The rare nature of the second one will make the price higher. Being an unrestored original will also bring a higher price. I do not know if the 650 seca was available for more than one year in the UK like it was here in the states, but that is not to far off for that condition.

I wish I could get my hands on one of those Renttecs. They look good on the back of a seca. I have not found a stateside distributor yet.

Sorry but in my opinion, the second one is way off the mark, the guy is very hopeful. I've seen similar bikes in as good, if nort better condition go for around half that price, and the XJ650 is not as rare over here, as he's trying to make out. I bought one myself in near enough showroom condition for £200 in 2009, and sold it 3 weeks later to someone who offered me £400 cash for it - he waved notes in my face when I said that it wasn't for sale. Oh and mine was taxed and mot'd, not just mot'd too. I then went on to by my Maxim-X 700

Hi Smurf. Yes I think (conversely to most "classic" bikes and the US/UK equation) UK buyers don't value the old XJ very highly in monetary terms.

If it was an LC it would command daft money, yet somehow this model is still very much overlooked over here.

One last year had a more accurate repro exhaust system on, yet failed to make the £1500 reserve (ironically it was an imported USA-market bike) and I do know someone locally who failed to sell his XJ (with genuine Yamaha exhaust system fitted) for around £1495 - mind you, I do know that he bought it just before for £900 - though to be fair he paid Padgetts around £200 for a NOS silencer before he put it up for sale.

Having said that, I think mine is pretty nice, and it failed to reach my £1275 reserve last year.. Still, glad its still mine really!

    A buyers market!

I agree that's a little pricey. I wouldn't pay more than about 900 ($1850 US), and would only go that high because it does look 98% original.

I paid $600 US for mine, and I've seen 3 since then that went between $300 - $1600 US depending on condition.

And the 650 UK (4K0), our 650R (5v2), was for sale in the UK from 1980-1984 model years, so not as rare as one might think.

Although checking UKebay for the side cover badges hasn't brought me much luck, so they are either still in use or no one parts bikes out across the pond.

Tskaz, You've got that right regarding the price. I think you could be right regarding no one parting out bikes over here, it seems that they'd rather just have the whole bike gone, instead of parting it out and making more money for doing so, and then wonder why they can't get parts themselves for a bike.

Smurf, actually what I'm looking for is the UK version of these:

I have the sidecovers. Our badges on the 650R have the words "seca" above the 650, your bikes just had a side cover badge that said "650" and was slightly larger than our badges.

That's what I would like to do is drop the "seca" from the badge. I'm thinking if I can't find some chrome (preferable) then i may just go with white vinyl to match the rest of the Yamaha badges I'm installing.

    Thanks for looking though

There are plenty of pricey XJ's (in my opinion) on ebay and I bet most of them are "Cash for bikes". The poor old boy who owned it probably didnt get more than £500!!
