In Nov. 06 I bought a 1980 XJ650 maxim it has a small dent in gas tank and missing tag on same side. The seat is in good condition other than some small spots from gas not being wiped off. Ruws real good but needs new boots (carb to head). It came w/after market back rest+lugage rack and crash bars. Paint is in fair condition. I paid $675 for it. Is this a deal or not?

If it is running then that's a deal. Most running bikes with no bad cosmetic problems will fetch $1000. The back rest I have seen sell for over $100 on Ebay.

Any running bike in halfway decent condition ought to fetch a grand in a bidding war. The dent and missing badge are miniscule.....probably 50% of the bikes out there in original condition have the same symptoms (my XJ has a dent in the tank as well) Any XJ over 10 years old (!) needs new carb boots. Deal. And well done!
Now, how about posting some pix of it?

Nice bike. Yea, that was a good deal. :) Clean shinny engine and chrome. I can see the dent in the tank but that is not that bad. Friend of mine had one like that in his Vulcan and got it fixed for about $200. Good deal Dude!

Once you get that bike running 10-Times better than the "Must notta been able to wrench a little-bit" guy who sold it too you ... you'll know what kind a deal you got when you been out ridin' all day, just to be out ridin' all day, and you lost track of how many times you laughed about gettin' such a good deal when you wince at the chill of the Noxema on your sunburn.
