I may have a problem with my solenoid or my start button. Pressing the start button after the bike has been running for a while usually has a .25 to .75 second delay before the bike turns over. Pressing the button on a cold engine turns the engine immediately. I'm thinking the solenoid might be getting old and sticking a bit. I scored another solenoid ( used ) and was wondering if I could detect a problem just by ohming both the new one and the one on the bike, or is it just as easy to swap them out and see what happens. If it's not the solenoid, is the start button easy enough to open up and clean up the contacts? ( and yes, I've already checked for delim on the rear brake, valves are adjusted and the carbs are cleaned and synced properly LOL. :)

Generally speaking, if you hear a clicking sound after the ignition button is pressed, it means that the solenoid is sticking.

It's sticking because not enough current is getting to it, and the battery needs charging.

No clicking, fully charged battery, so I guess it's not the solenoid. My #2 culprit would be the start button itself. Anyone know if it's a straight forward 'pull apart' or is a mystery spring going to pop out on me and hide in my garage until I find it 2 years from now, under a dirty boot, 15 feet away from where my bike is sitting.

..a mystery spring will pop out (and a possibly a tiny ball bearing IIRC after you undo th circlip which will be first to find a place for th spring to land) You have to master th tiny little buggers, then clean th little contacts, like 'points'. I also added an appropriatly sized bit of rubber or such behind th switch block to stop it flexing inwards on it's mount, which helped as well. Plus a bit of di-electric grease if you have it, to keep away corrosion. Whilst still maintaining your mastery, put it together again.
