Just picked up an xj650 on Monday. Everything runs great no problems besides a bum battery. So over the winter im planning on turning it into a bobber.

Im planning on running the soft tail still but putting on a solo metal seat pan and wrapping it myself.

My question is, what size for seat pans were successful for you and how did you mount it?

Im thinking of something similar to this - this one is 12 1/4 X 8"
I sketched the size out on paper and it seems about right, but im just curious what the dimensions are on the ones you have.

Thanks man. I was reading that thread yesterday and that's sort of how i plan to do my seat im just not exactly sure on what size to get...
    My options are the one above (12 1/4 X 8") or (14 X 10 1/2")

Those obviously aren't my ONLY options but the easiest available to me.

Like I said on my last post on that thread. I mock it up using card board. Then got the sheet metal and cut it, and shaped it myself. the reason In did that was so I could get a more suited shape. Most of the seat pans tend to be a bit on the skinny side twards the front of the seat. Plus it is much cheaper than buying a premade seat pan. Of course not everyone has the abillity to go that rout but if you can you should give it a try.

Ill give the card board mock up a go (probably 100X better than my paper mock up for an idea)

I also used cardboard for a template to get an idea on the size/shape I'd need. I then used old sign aluminum to make a seat pan out of. It's easy to work with (cutting and bending) and is strong enough. Old STOP signs or similar work the best and are easy to come by.
*I'm not an advcate of removing signs along the road however, so I get them from construction contractors who have several laying around from job sites that may be scratched or bent.
