Well, we agreed on a deal anyhow. With any hope, the exchange will happen in the next few days!

    Here is the post:

A 1982 YAMAHA 750 MAXIM, IT HAS A CLEAN TITLE, CUSTOM PAINT, NEW SEAT ,CUSTOM SISSY BAR, BIKE HAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IT IS STUCK IN FIRST GEAR. I ROAD IT ONE DAY PARKED IT AND THERE IT SITS BIKE RUNS GREAT OTHERWISE

I couldn't pass it up! Lets just say, the Mrs. had no problem with my dealings on this baby. God I hope I'm not jinxing myself here...

Dennis, the seller, said he owned it back in '96 and sold it then. Evidently, a few years ago the guy he sold it to dropped it. Guy used dot5 brake fluid with the original lines. Guess it twisted the front end when he went down. He sold it back to Dennis for $200. Dennis then put the front end of the '83 maxim on it, custom paint, new seat and sissy bar... He said it got stuck in gear about a 1.5 years ago and has been parked since. Got about 31k miles.

I did confirm updated brake lines, pads and shoes. He did say he never touched the valves witch does concern me a bit. I figure with the help of all the great members here, Haynes and some elbow grease. I can bring her back to life. If all else fails, I'll have a 750 tank and you guys will have some parts coming available!

Nice find. Hopefully the transmission won't be too much of a problem.

Sounds like an adventure. There is a ton of help here. I've found that using Google to search topics works a bit better than the search function to the left. Just Google your search topics with "xjbike" on the front.

Good luck and take the time to enjoy it. Set up a warm man cave that allows you to take her apart and put her back together with plenty of elbow room. I picked up a bike a couple weeks ago but before I brought her home I cleaned out the garage, cleaned off my tool benches, and brought in a desk and office chair for some relaxing cleaning and disassembly.

Put a white star on your gas tank, that green is asking for one.

I've had the stuck in first gear on two xj750's. The fix is time consuming but doable in a weekend. The first one took me three week to finish(snapped off a couple of bolts and had to walk away for a while) the second one took two days (and that was taking my time). Looks like a good bike. Good luck with it.
