    Hello all,

So after rebuilding my carbs and petcock I rode my bike around the block to come home and find my petcock leaking just a little. After looking closer I realized it is leaking from the small "valley" in the plastic washer. Does anyone know the purpose of this "valley" or how to fix this?

    Thanks.

So far as i can tell the 'valley' is to allow air movement for the diaphragm so it can move in and out. You've probably still got a leak past the O ring on the end of the diaphragm, where the O ring seats has to be spotless and no marks in it. These petcocks are a PITA from my experience as well.

That is the petcock I have. Great link thanks for that!! Ok does anyone know of any McMaster o-rings that will fit this? I had used a K&L rebuild kit.

If fuel is leaking out the vent slot there is more wrong than just the o-ring not sealing properly; something else isn't right.

Did you simply replace parts, or follow this article and re-surface all the mating and sealing surfaces? http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=25058.html

^^ on further thought yes..the diaphragm is leaking through or it's not seated properly or not tightened down. Might just appear to be the vent hole that's leaking? Fixing petcocks needs the same attention to detail as fixing/cleaning/maintaining the switches on the bars...carbs and other stuff...

Pulled the Petcock and rebuilt it again. This time I cleaned it just a tad more and now it seems there is no leaks. Thanks for the advice!
