Well I got this bike at first to make a cafe racer but shortly after that I changed my mind mainly because after seeing the bike I thought this might be better suited as well hardtail bobber. I will later try a xs and make it into a Cafe racer but back to the main topic my project hardtail. Attached is some pix of when I first got the bike to what it is now.

Some ideas my buddy and I had:

    Cafe ideas:

Then the bobber/hardtail idea hit me:

And so begins my start at hacking and welding and grinding.
OOh no its all cut up.. lol
    [IMG]
And this is how you start the bike (not my handy work) you had to start it with a wrench.

The stock bar had to go for a drag bar. Controls Im looking at some Kawasaki controls from a 92 KZ6r something. Its some bike my buddy has as parts.
    left overs parts:

    The hardtail process begins:

The gas tank I was going to uses Suzuki 185GT ( Will not fit )

    Buddy grinding:

He is much better at pie cuts then I am. and welding...
I'd show you the Carb rebuild but I don't want you guys the throw up from all the ear wax like gunk in the carbs.
And finally as it sits today:

I am now looking for a gas tank that will fit this bike. so far I know the KZ 650D tank fits but not much else. The 750 tank has some issue Im trying to get rid of. like the fact the handle bars bang into the factory 750 tank and dent it up. KZ tank doesn't get banged up.

Items I have left to do:
1: Fender is going to be a half/mid tire fender with integrated taillights /w turns in the rear. Front is unknown. Want to do bare but Im told I will be wearing the road.
2: Gas tank that fits (in search of tank)
3: Finish putting the carbs back on the bike
    4: bobber Seat is needed
5: gauge cluster from a Maxim
6: Get it titled as a project bike so I can legally ride it.

So I have a lot left but I also have a lot done. If you know of a different gas tank that will work please let me know...

Your better off with a tank from a 650 Maxim. It's a direct fit with no mods needed and looks alot better than the big ugly Seca tank, that's for sure.

Here is what the KZ tank looked like. But this before we started cutting up stuff. The seat is from that blue Kawi ZX6R F2

It suck because I have to get my root canal a new cap because it broke. $300 from my project bike. I do have until spring but hell I have a ton of stuff to do.

Also I was going to swap out for some maxim forks but after reading some about the dive system on cornering Im going to keep them. plus now I don't have to rebuild the maxim forks I have. They had some oil on them so I assume the seals are gone even though the seller on ebay said they were in good sharp and ready to uses. But nonetheless, this tank fits pretty well. until I can find a tank that fits better for less then $75 that's what is going go. I'll post up some more about the fenders as well.

If you like the 185 tank and not afraid to try something - -

You fill the tank with sand, dig a hole, fit the tank into the ground,
now you can pound the inside valley of the tank for your needed clearance.

A rounded 2X4 and heavy mallet, measure as you go.

You get the last bits of sand out by using a water siphon and garden hose, like cleaning a fish tank.

the problem with the tank banging, which I have done already, is that the front has sandwiched the tank. plus the part I need to hammer in is right next to the petcock mounting area. Didn't want to take it that far because the tank needed to drop about 3-4 more inches so it didn't look like I was seating up high.

Here is the bike a little more completed with the tank that doesn't fit.

and now with the tank I'm going to buy soon. KZ500-750 SR or LTD tank.
I was also lucky enough to have some seats around my buddies shop. So now I know what style of custom seat I want to make as well as the rear fender. Was going to make a tail dragger but I think now its going to be a half fender. Liking the bare tire look more. The front is still a problem because I was it bare as well but I don't want crap slinging off the front tire into the motor/header.

And finally the carbs. I have fully cleaned and rebuilt them you could eat off them. Before they were looking like a 90 yr old mans diaper. Packed full of shit. Never seen anything like it. but look at them now.

and say bu-bye to the anti dive forks. and hello Maxim forks. The current forks work just fine but I don't want the anti dive system so they are up for sell. Detail pix upon request. I haven't taken them off the bike just yet. have to rebuild the maxim forks.
