Just introducing myself. I have been riding since the mid-70's, but bought a 1985 FJ600 about a year ago. It's a great runner and mostly complete and I got it way cheap. I figure it's a keeper. Now I am doing modifications and cleaning up some botched jobs by prior owners. It doesn't need much and I "have the technology to make it better than it was" if you will pardon the misquoting from the 6-million dollar man. One thing I am looking for is an accurate template for the original windshield. That would save me some time when cutting a new one. Thanks and I look forward to looking around in this community.

Hey Guys, just wanted to introduce myself. I've been riding & wrenching way longer than I care to remember. My current daily driver is an '03 Z1000, but have recently taken ownership of an '81 XJ 550 Maxim, so thought I'd get logged into this bike's forum where I can get some REAL answers when I'm in need of them.
I'm located in the Bay Area, where we have some GREAT roads. If any of you guys ever get out here, give me a call & I'll show you around......

I've made several windshields in the past years using Lexan, which is more expensive than Plexiglas, but almost indistructble.
Use cardboard to make a template, then tranfer it to a sheet of Lexan. I cut mine with a jigsaw or scroll saw, then sand the edges with fine sand paper (just the edge, be careful not to scratch the front or back side) then polish the edge smooth with my buffer.
You should be able to make a slight bend or arch to fit the bike, no problem. 1/8" or 3/16" bends fairly easily.

Welcome to both of you from VA! You have come to the right place to get your questions answered. Most people are more than happy to lend out a helping hand with knowledge or helping out. Welcome again.

How thick can you get Lexan? I would like to try machine a clear carb bowl just for giggles...Would make setting float heights easy as pie.

Not sure how you'd do that, unless you could get it as a block and carve it out. Never seen a block of lexan. I have thin sheets for my windshield.
