It shuts off the Yamaha Induction Control System ports. It's the passage running right below the manifold boots. It has two symmetrical bolts on either side of your bike. There are several forums referencing the "YICS". According to our guru's they are unsure of why Yamaha decided to stop making this System a part of the manufacturing process. I have no clue. Some of the post I've read say that once you install it, leave it in. Others say don't. The instructions I received with mine says to leave it in. The instructions also say you "must" re-synch your carbs at the time of the installation.

YICS provided increased performance and improved fuel economy on the engines it was built with.

Blocking it off and leaving it blocked is completely unnecessary and will cost you in terms of fuel economy at the very least.

We block it on the YICS motors only to do a running vacuum sync.

The aluminum tool with "O" rings ends up with sliced "O" rings, maybe that's why they don't want you to remove and inspect it.

The more proper tool has sections of hi-temp hose that expand after installation and doesn't shred with use.

Plus we don't leave the "more proper" tool in place; it's for performing an adjustment and then it's removed.
