Just get the XJCD that is sold on the website. You get the complete shop manual for all the XJ's and parts manuals too, along with all the other info.

Sorry to semi-hijack the topic but...

Am I right in assuming that the factory shop manual is a part of the XJCD collection? Also does anyone have a legit link to purchase this XJCD series? I'm just to untrusting when it comes to the google'd responses.

I already have the Haynes Manual, but if the XJCD doesn't come with the factory shop manual does anyone have a reliable ebook link where I could purchase it?

    Thanks!

Hey, just pay the $10.00 or what ever-it's well worth it. Before I got mine I ordered a Shop Manual for my 81'XJ750 Seca from Yamaha. What a Rip Off! It cost me over $100.00 and was pure CRAP! The whole thing was copied, next to nothing was on the XJ, everything was just Updates and when there was a picture of what you needed to see (like in the crankcase) it was so dark you couldn't make out anything. Thanks to the guys in here I just sent the money in and Pow! what they sent me was great-WHAT A LIFE SAVER THESE GUYS ARE! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth-you might lose the gift. grunt007, 81'XJ 750Seca R.

Len stocks them. Ask for HCP1145.

I did. I got ahold of the factory manual for the X anyway. It's quite legible.

There's a reason for that. Consulting my, er, XJCD, the base service manual for the Seca 750 is the 650G.

The Seca service supplement on the XJCD doesn't look much better, I'm afraid.

My advice: get the XJCD. As has been said, it's well worth the cost. I mainly use mine for looking up parts (the parts fiches are included). But, you should consider getting a hardcopy manual as well.

To be perfectly honest, after spending now that I think of it over $120 for the last one I seriously doubt if I will ever order another manual from Yamaha. They know the difference and all they did was to rip the customer off. A better term for it would be (Legally Stealing) People which do business that way I do my best to avoid. grunt007, 81 XJ 750 Seca, Mi.

You need to understand how the Yamaha manuals work.

For instance, the Seca 650 Manual. It's only a supplement to the XJ650G book; which is the "base" manual for all of the larger displacement bikes. If you buy the correct version for your bike, it includes the base manual+the necessary supplements. I have the "dealer" version (without the fancy cover that was on the retail version) which includes the supplement and base manual bound together as one book. Order the wrong 'LIT' part number and you will end up with nothing but supplements.

For factory books cheap, nothing beats eBay. But as with everything on the 'Bay, YOU have to know what you're looking for and at, because the sellers are probably confused or just plain wrong.

For anyone that's interested, I found a Maxim X manual pdf online. You can just use it on the web, or download it, but you have to upload something in return.

I still plan on getting the C.D., just couldn't bring myself to spend the 90 bucks on the manual...

BIGFITZ52, Sorry to have to clarify this but I did order the right shop manual. I even went downstairs in the motorcycle shop which I purchased it through and had them show me what they were ordering for me. The one they showed me was the full Version Shop manual which is what I wanted. They ordered it with the same number code on it as their shop manual and I still ended up with a piece of CRAP TO SAY THE LEAST. Call it a $130 piece of crap!
Now I have since found out that others have ordered the same manual and also received from Yamaha what I got. Think of how much Yamaha is screwing all of us out of that spend the $120-130.00 for this thing that is worthless to at least myself. Excuse my language but CRAP is CRAP and that's what I have to say about it. grunt007, 81' XJ750 Seca R.

I have a suggestion, and I know many won't like it, but, I have found that the HAYNES manual, despite a few typos, errors and omissions has worked for me. It can be found on Ebay for about $20.

YOU ARE 100% CORRECT ON THE HAYNES MANUAL. A PEACH OF A GUY GAVE ME A COPY OF THE HAYNES MANUAL AND THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN USING SINCE. I ONLY SAID WHAT I DID ABOUT YAMAHA AND THEIR MANUALS BECAUSE I REALLY HATE THE THOUGHT OF SOMEONE ELSE GETTING RIPPED OFF AS I DID BY YAMAHA ON THEIR SHOP MANUAL AND I BET MANY STILL ARE. WHAT A WAY TO REALLY DAMAGE A NEW BIKE OWNER WHERE HE WANTS TO RESTORE A VINTAGE YAMAHA AND RIGHT OFF THE BAT HE GETS RIPPED OFF BY OVER $100 FOR A SO CALLED SHOP MANUAL BY THE COMPANY WHICH BUILT THE BIKE HE IS PLANNING ON RESTORING AND PUTTING A CHUNK OF MONEY IN. WHY YAMAHA IS DOING THIS IS BEYOND ME, THE ONLY THING I CAN FIGURE IS THAT APPARENTLY THEY JUST DON'T THINK THAT THERE IS ENOUGH PROFIT IN SELLING MANUALS FOR OLD BIKES?

I think the Japs don't want us to keep the bikes that they made just a bit too good, it bites into their profits. This is why they have bad manuals and limited the amount of spare parts.

LVSteve2011, I agree with you 100% Steve in regards to the Japs. Now it seems it is China playing similar games with everything we buy from them. There trick is to put a key component in the tool which is not made to last and when you go to get the part, it is no longer available. Think they learned from the Japs? I still haven't been able to get started on the rebuild of my XJ750 Seca but when I went through that Shop Manual game I was just about ready to dump the Turkey! Then I ran across XJBikes and they were a real life saver for me. The support you guys give and advice is second to none and I am even starting to get a liking for my XJ so who knows what the old gal may end up being. I can see that I am going to have to start with the valves and then the carbs and probably rebuilding the petcock on the tank for starters and then there's the rear brakes, whew and that's just for starters eh? We sure got to love them to stay with them. That I believe German dude and what he did to his XJ sure inspired me to get on mine. His bike is now on my Start Up screen for windows. grunt007, 81'XJ 750 Seca R, Mi.
