I think I may have my airbox boots mixed up. I believe I've read that there are 2 boots that have a slight curve to them. Which carbs do they go on? The 2 outer carbs or the 2 inner carbs?

I searched but couldn't find the thread I read it in. Too many threads about pods mention "airbox boots". 8O

Also, anyone know a good way to soften them up for placing on the bike? With it being so cold right now, I don't want to tear one. Thanks

if my memory serves me right, they would go on the two inner carbs. wait for someone else to verify as well

getting them soft is simple; just let 'em sit in warm~hot water for however long you want... 10 minutes would be long enough IMO

Not sure of order, can probably stare at the pics in the manual or a haynes manual to figure it out -- or trial fit two and figure it out as the pattern for the other two... regarding softening: I've found pure silicone in either a grease form or silicone spray works well after cleaning place each in a zip lock baggie -- spray in silicone or put a smudge of pure silicone grease in there -- then -- Shake the bag or crumple the bag to disperse the silicone...

I think some guys use Armorall but I believe the key ingrediaent even w/armorall is silicone.

Finally, Chacal sells this stuff called rNr fluid which has a magical ingredient for softening rubber...

    Hope this helps

On the 550s all 4 boots are the same. (Which doesn't mean that they don't "take a set" on their own; but they all started out the same.)

I bring a pan of water to a boil, and then remove from heat. Then I drop the boots in and leave them until the water cools off enough to stick my hand in.

thanks Fitz. They all looked SOOOO close, i couldn't tell if it was a warped boot issue. I've got one boot that didn't want to seal around the airhorn too well, I'll see what I can do.

    Thanks all for the input.
