    Hello
I have a question about swapping the cylinders on my 1983 xj 550 seca with a pair of cylinders that I scored pretty cheap on ebay. They were listed for a 1980 xj550 seca. is there any concerns or difference is that I should be worried about? or should I be putting these 1980 cylinders in the for sale section?

    Thanks!

Yamaha didn't make the XJ 550 until 1981. Measure them carefully before trying to use them.

You need to do this anyway. Cylinders aren't something you just swap.

You need to check the bores for taper and out-of-round; and calculate your piston clearances based on measuring the pistons you plan to install.

You are planning on installing new rings as well?

All new pistons, rods, bearings, refinish surfaces and oversized bore etc.
My concern is base match and head match. Seems that 81 (which I assume the seller had sent me) has the same base gasket as the 83... Correct?

We'll see what shows up in the mail
