    Hi, I recently bought a 2003 ninja 250 with 30,000km on it for $950.
However my neighbour who does have experience with motorcycles says that the engine sounds a bit odd and might not last long so he is advising me to sell it and buy something more reliable.
    So i found this deal
    (http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z363528871)
and was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on if the seca would be a better, more reliable choice.

    Thanks,
    Jakub

That's a bit like asking: "Which is better, apples or bananas. My neighbor, who knows something about oranges, thinks my apple doesn't look right."

That 250 Ninja is going to sound a lot different than a V-twin or any 4 cylinder motorcycle. Without knowing what he hears there is no way we can give any kind of useful advice.

Of course, none of us know what the Seca II in the add sounds like either.

I am curious why someone with a 750 Seca would be at all interested in a 250 Ninja.

Hmmm reliable, those little Ninjettes are pretty much bullet-proof, but from what I hear a hoot to ride,

"Street Fighter" generally means "I crashed the bike and can't afford to replace the bodywork" so I'd avoid that one.

You can't diagnose an engine by ear. Run a compression test; get a manual and figure out what's been neglected; and un-neglect it.

Catch up on all the maintenance, just like you would any old bike (9 years old is old in motorcycle years.)

I'd pass on the Seca II.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I have a feeling you're trying to get through this cheap and easy. Not gonna happen. You're either gonna spend time or money, decide which one you can afford and either buy a well maintained (with documentation) newish bike, or prepare yourself to do the work on a less expensive bike like your Ninja to get and keep it running well.

No such thing as a cheap bike.
