I ran across a few pics i had of my bikes that i bought new. First bike i bought brand new was my 82 750 seca. For those of you that are old enough to remember. Yamaha made so many of the 650s and 750s they were selling left overs up to about 1986. They ran great sales i bought the 82 off the floor in 85 for $1800. After that prices started to really jump. In 1987 i Bought the very 1st fzr1000 in central fl. Bought that for $4995. That lasted a few years til i wanted more. Sold it and bought a new 91 kawasaki zx11 added a few performance parts that lasted thru the 90s. I bought it new $6995

That's pretty cool. I look at the hardware being sold now and the prices and somehow can't wrap my head around the fact that in only 20 years, the cost of a new Multistrada is worth what a brand new Coup-deville was.

I guess that makes my Vstrom 1000, my very first brand new bike even a better deal since I paid 7400 out the door in 07. I know it's nothing near a Duc but 3 times the cost!?! Naw, not to me. It would make more sense to me to spend twice as much and get a S1000RR Beemer....at least with that, I can get 200mph if I want it<LOL>. I like my inexpensive older bikes nearly as much as my V. The only thing I won't do on my collection bikes is to ride long distance but Sunday night when I would tighter then a timex from working on my car....it was the Turbo that got "de-stressing" duty as the urging of my sweetheart.

    good post Dave!

My Maxim X (85-86) was selling for $4,500 when new here in Canada. I did see one selling for $3,000 in the fall of 88 in one showroom. The Fazer beside it was going for $4,000. These are both the 750cc bikes.

In 1979 there was a leftover '78 XS500 still in the crate that with Dealer Prep, luggage rack and windscreen was $1,650 -
My first REAL bike, if you don't count the RD250 ($500, used)

    In 1985 I bought a '83 Seca 900, fixed-up after a crash for $1,000
It only had 1,000 miles, and when I bought it, the PO was STILL in the hospital recovering. 8O
