Hey guys , I have a friend who bought what is supposed to be an early seca 750 front master cylinder from ebay for a bike she is building . She specifically wanted a master cyl with a remote mount and cable rather than hydrolic and someone suggested the early seca setup . She now needs whatever info possible on this thing and specifically how the cable mounts to the cylinder . Pics of one on a bike and the cable set up pic would be much appreciated . I have a pdf manual on my putor but it does not have the pics she needs . Thanks , LL

    Thanks, Nick.

I'm the gal that Lowlife was asking for. I thought that if I'm going to get information from your forum, I'd better join up and show some support too. :)

I have some strange ideas to rebuild an '85 Virago XV700 using parts from various other bikes to come up with a really cool ride. I was restoring this one, and the day I finished it in 2003, I got rear-ended on it. A gal drove right through me at 60mph while I was stopped, waiting to turn left off a 2 lane highway

Once I saw that only the drivetrain and forks survived the carnage, I didn't have the willpower or energy to restore it again.

After a while, once I was infected with the chopper disease, I decided to turn what's left into a real different ride. Something that will get looks and make people wonder what kind of bike it is.

I already decided on a color scheme, because it's my "ghost" bike. Fitting after the wreck. gray frame and white tin will be the main choices. But I've always disliked the buckhorn bars and handlebar mounted master cylinder on the XV line. So I started hunting for a cable/hydraulic setup for the build.

With the information from a Chopperfix member that the early Seca's had the right equipment, I started hunting and found a few parts on Ebay. Now it's time to fit it, and see if it's going to work as well as I think it will. But sadly, I know absolutely nothing about the XJs.

I appreciate the image here! I'm wondering if anyone might have one without the headlight mounted that would show the bracket and exact mounting of the master?

Again, thanks to lowlife, and now Nick, for the info I have so far. You guys are great. 8)

The brackets are a little twisted from the wreck, but maybe you can get an Idea of the mounts.
It's not quite what you wanted, but it may help.

    Thanks :D

I may need to create something to hold the master on my project, but that's a really good view of how the original went on.

On the '85 XV700 that I plan to use it on, the splitter mounts in basically the same place. So I'm going to mount that, and work a way to mount the master from where it ends up with the steel line installed.

This is really invaluable to me. I appreciate the help!

Thirty bucks for a chunk of metal? Someone is proud!

Hey girlie, if you think a stock mount would help, like Nick suggests, yell at me. Shipping sounds like a fair price for the one in the pictures, but I'm keeping the master for a future chopper project.

Keep us updated on progress over here and don't be a stranger.

Thanks Nick, I appreciate you looking for that part for me. You guys are alright!

    eatatjoz,
Sent you a PM. I'll take yours for shipping if the offer stands. I'll get some images of the build as I go... if you really want to see it. It's ust too cold here at the moment. Who ever thought it would be 30 degrees on Easter? Sheesh.

If I had a shop, it wouldn't matter. But I do all my bike tinkering out side next to my deck. (I'm Po Fok)
