has anybody tried advancing the ignition timing on the 750's ?
i'am thinking conservative, like 3 degrees.
is the timing on a turbo the same as a normal 650?

I have done it on the 550 by slotting the timing plate. Seemed to help out on midrange and never had a problem with the engine. I think I only went about 4 degrees advance but it was so long ago and the notes are long gone.:(
Not sure if the turbo and 750s would share the same timing, I would think not since the CDI's are going to be different. The timing base plate might be the same though.

i was just trying to get some idea from the 650 to the turbo 650 of the range that i might be able to go. i'll slot the holes in the one i have.
3 sounds safe enough for a everyday rider, thanks

now with a few miles on it, seems that the small kick it had around 5K is gone, seems to pull linearly from 3 to 7 then a big hit at 7 and on up.
a few more rides and i'll put it back just to see what it was like originally

Hey Polock, can you do a pic and descriptive journal of how you did it and the tools you used?
Might help out if others want to give it a go.

i used my little bench top mill and a rotary table with a co-ax indicator,
anybody with those tools already knows how to do it.
    but
i'll do my spare plate and take a few pictures then if somebody wants it
    we could do a swap.
i guess it could be done with a file but from 0 to +3 isn't much and you don't want to go very far past 3, then your getting out the timing light

    PO,

Remember that the Pressure Sensor will retard the timing by several degrees as will the knock sensor. I can email you the pages from the manual which has the charts if you need it.

The stock turbo timing is (BTDC)
    5 degrees at 1050RPM (=/-2deg)
25 degrees at 2500 rpm(=/-2 deg) at 0 boost pressure
    same at 3000 rpm.

    At -50mm HG

    30 degrees (=/-2.5deg)at 2000rpm
    33 at 3000rpm(=/- 2.5deg)
    37.5 at 5000rpm(=/-2deg

Jeff this isn't a turbo, i was just asking about them to see what kind of range of timing to use. i went ahead and did 3 deg +, now i need a test rider to use the seat of their pants dyno to tell me what's better, my opinion might be slanted
