when changing from stock air box to K&N pod, jets need to be replaced.
is there any standard size jet to switch to? or is it based on what jets are in there already? (New at this)
anyone have any tips for me?

There is no rock solid formula. To many factors involved. There are good recommendations, and member Chacal (supporting parts vendor see upper right XJForever logo) has already written a good document for a starting point. Read the below and proceed expecting much trial and error.

My son went to the K&N's and has had nothing but trouble ever since.
I will stick with the stock airbox myself. Who wants to play with oily air filters that are exposed to the weather? Just think it is a bad idea myself.

Sorry, forgot to paste the other link to the catalog. All of the carb stuff is on page 1. Good luck with it. I tried to tune to the pods that my bike came with and it was so much of a PITA that I tracked down another factory airbox and tuning problems vanished. Stock config will provide the best overall tune and predictability of the machine. I am not saying it can't be done with pods, just a whole lot of time and trial and error to get it running as close to full range performance as possible.

O B D & Mook are right on. If youre lookin for a boost in performance with pods, save your time & $$$. Probably not gonna happen. Enjoy your 550 for what it is, a pretty darn good bike. Been there, done that. Just my opinion & tryin to help.

+1. If you have the stock airbox, hang on to it. Especially with a 550; you really don't have anything anywhere in the powerband to "give up."
