i bet you can get pretty close if you take a crowbar blow out the baffles and plasma torch holes in the back of you stock 4 to 2.

Sounds too dirty for my tastes, but thats how the game is played. To each their own.

Oh and the baffles and plasma thing. Joking..

What exactly do you like about the sound?
Just loud, well slap on some mufflers that don't muffle. But that'll get really annoying at the high revs an XJ is supposed to run

If you like the glug-glug-glug at idle, I've got a 4-2 MAC exhaust with baffles that the PO destroyed. I got some perforated straight through baffles that were fiberglass packed, and it preserves that idle glug but smooths out and quiets down up the higher rev "dirty" sound.

Also, the 4-2 doesn't have a cross-over pipe, so the sound from one side or the other is only 2 of 4 cylinders firing, getting a glug-glug sound.

Keep in mind, I kept stock intake, and went from 120->124 on the mains, and 40->41 on the pilot. I didn't do all this to make it louder or sound any different, just quieting down what the PO did, but I have gotten some good feedback from at least one other XJ rider.

ManBot, you hit the nail on the head! The "glug" at idle is like music to my ears. I also agree that the higher rev is a bit too dirty.

So far, I know nothing about exhaust systems. I know that I don't want to go through the apparent nightmare that many people on here talk about with re-jetting. On the video this guy has pods AND straight pipes. So sounds like a lot of jet work.

    :/

I'm working on getting mine to stop sounding like that... My bike's PO thought a 4 into 2 with straight pipes were a good plan.

I'm with ya mister. I used to hate loud pipes, but now I love them. I'm sure when I get older I will go back to quiet, but for now it just adds a level of fun to the ride.

The guy said he fabbed the "collector" bits so there's no collector box to absorb sound and add back pressure. In my opinion, he's not even idling on all 4, adding to the "glug" It would also be screamin loud.

I don't think you really want to do this.

Meh, it's not going to happen anyways. At least not any time soon. I don't want to head into re-jet territory. I'm just too lazy for that! :D

Will some slip ons provide the nice glug? Would rejetting be necessary? In addition to the glug I just hate the look of the stock mufflers!

Shame you're so far away, I have a 4 into 2 that I'd be overjoyed to trade for a stock system in good shape which fits an 81 XJ650 Maxim.

That is if I could get it off, I dunno, I haven't tried. If my limited experience with exhaust is to be trusted, which it probably shouldn't be, the header bolts are probably seized.
