Question about selling my 85 Maxim

Hello,
I'm wondering if $1450 is a good asking price for this bike. Here is the add (Sorry if im not allowed to post links, just opened this account, dont have time to read forum rules...)

1985 Maxim running condition, new rear tire. Needs exhaust replaced or welded, new fork seals.

 

It may be a "good" price for the beginning of the riding season (in most areas) for people who only have $1500 or don't know any better, especially if it cold starts right up for potential buyers.

That being said, don't expect any "seasoned" forum members to pay you that much. They know what else need to be done to get it riding better/safer regardless what you and previous owners did (or claimed they did).

FYI: When I say "people who don't know any better", I mean people like me 3 years ago. I bought my first bike for $1200 delivered. Luckily there was/is nearly nothing wrong with it and the seller probably did fix/do all the stuff he told me about.
Besides that, "people" probably don't know what they are getting into buying a 30 year old bike. It's not a car that just needs new gas and tires.

I'm not ripping on you, your price or your ad - I'm just saying an experienced owner/buyer probably would pay you about 1/2 of your asking price depending on compression test results and some visual aspects.

 

couldn't say what it's worth, but those pics sure make it look like a million bucks. srsly

 

If he has truly done that much work and it runs as good as he claims, then consider it. He listed a lot of work and labor so it could be worth it. Just remember you'll have to fix the forks,go through the brakes and check the valves.
