this may seem like a silly question, but i have a 1981 xj650, unfortunately the bottom end went and am on the hunt for a new engine and was wondering whether the engine from a 650 turbo would go into it without much modification needed?

    cheers

No, turbos have lots of extras, are are lower compression. They probably don't mount in the frame either.

What do you mean by the bottom end went?

As in you threw a rod? While turning over the engine? wow. Pics?

Yeah, your best bet is a 650 maxim engine of any year, but any 650/750 would do, although there are some differences (carb jetting, transmission ratios, timing/TCI curves) that are different between the two, they can be overcome or accepted pretty easily. If you get a different 650 or 750 engine, people will be more than happy to chime in on the diffs.

(HINT: Engines are really hard to sell on ebay because of shipping. See if you can find anyone parting out a bike in your area, and contact them about the engine). Or get a parts bike, and drop the engine in, sell the rest of the parts, and you'll come out ahead.

O.K.---thats never good! Hopefully the members around here can help you track down a good used motor. Switching out the motor is really not that hard, so dont be intimidated. Where are you located?
