Hi, My final drive leaks a little oil. I geuss from the breather. The very top of the drive with a little cap type thing on it. I don't want to break the cap if it isn't removable but how can I fix this small leak. Thanks

Well it is what it is, a breather. It's doing its' job of breathing.
Try to syphon a bit out of the final drive box or drain it. Or if you can't syphon any, just get a dry rag and put it in the filler and let capilary action extract a bit of excess transmission fluid.
    That's what i'd do.

Mine does this too sometimes & always wondered why. I drain the old stuff & refill with new. Seems to help. Quick & easy enough to do & sure doesnt take very much oil. I use SAE 80/90 hypoid gear oil as per my manual. I wonder if there is something better to use that would prevent this.

I've lost count of how many shaft drive bikes i've owned, but if they are filled with the correct amount of oil they don't leak.
Check the manual for the correct amount.

On level ground, just below or just up to the threads of the filler?
To be honest with you, i'd ignore that and go with the recommended amount in the manual.

Thats right. On the centerstand, fill up to the edge of the filler hole. Almost impossible to overfill.

Check you manual for proper oil fill. Sometimes filling to the threads on the fill hole is too much, that will cause oil too weep out the vent. On the XJ and XS 1100 the proper fill is about an inch BELOW the fill plug.

When the azz-end leaks from the Breather, ...
It means the Breather's working OK.

Cooled Hypoid likes to ooze-out of there.
    It happens alot.

If you can find a Racing Blend (80W/140) ... i t doubles as "All Season"

    Correct Filling helps.
    Level surface.
    Center Stand.
    Empty Drive Unit.
    Fill s-l-o-w-l-y.
The BOOK shows the Level of Gear Oil at the TOP Thread, ... just about starting to spill-out.
