    Hello everyone...

First off, I'm really glad this place is here... I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of questions real soon... :D

So I just found an XJ to buy (82 XJ750J to be exact), and I just need to get it home. Can anyone tell me the overall length of a 750 Maxim? I need to know if I'll be able to fit it in the bed of a compact pickup, or a full-size truck with a quad cab (shorter bed).

Do you think it'll work, or do I need a full-size pickup with a full-length bed?

    Thanks for any help...

according to the Haynes manual the overall length of the xj750j is 84.4 inches
    wheelbase is 46.3 inches.

I was able to get an 81 750 Seca in the bed of a ford ranger. It is an inch shorter(according to the book specs). It was a tight fit but you should be able to manage a maxim diagonally onto the bed of a compact pickup.

Fits in a ford f-150 quadcab short box. Not the best fit, but it fits.

if it's real tight/close remember you can deflate the tires and gain a couple inches to get the tailgate shut.

My 550 Maxim fit in the 6 foot bed of my supercab Ranger with the tailgate down and room to spare. Probably could have put the gate up with the bike diagonal.

I measured mine and got 86.5 inches. That is with the front wheel straight ahead. Which is the way most people strap them in.

My 85 XJ700 fits in the back of my older Toyota P/U with the tailgate down....barely.

I DO have to strap it in with ratchet tiedowns

I got mine home in the back of an Avalanche (4 ft bed).
...Of course I had to take out the back window, fold down the seats, and BACK the bike into the empty space to clear the roof... It was quite a sight. Half the bike in the bed, half in the cab.
    I wish I'd have gotten a picture.
