I made a quick reference of this in another post, but want to get some opinions here.

I tried out my color tune that just came in the mail last night. thought, "oh man this will be neat!" and it was. got to yellow combustion, backed off till there was now more yellow. couldn't note that bunsen blue.

however when it was all said and done, went back to my first cylinder i had synced, and the plug was black! I had them all brown just by tweeking by ear and color, but with all the advice saying "do a color tune," i wanted to do it right. Now they are all black. So either i'm missing something here in how to use it, or this thing is really only for ballpark adjustment. If it's the latter i really don't think it's worth it.

anyone had good luck with it? better than me at least? or have any ideas if i f-ed up somewhere?

I don't have much knowledge on this subject really, but you might need to do a running sync and colortune a couple of times to get it dialed in...

You need to make sure you are doing it correctly.
You even said that you could not see the nice blue flame. One thing I noticed when I first started using the color tune on my bike was that you need to have a low light condition. This will help you see the flame better. You also need to color tune then sync then color tune then sync then color tune then sync. If by the third time you are not really making further adjustments then you have things set properly. Once you have this then you go for a ride, like for 5 miles or so, and when you get back then check the color of your plugs to see if things are burning right. This is my 2 cents, hope it helps.

right on, i'll give this a shot. done a sync now, backed my pilots out almost another half turn. i'll go ahead and sync again. but i think i'm gonna skip the color tune and do it the old fashioned way

    No Dude!!!
I told you how to do it the right way!
Whatever man. All I know is that my 550 is dead on but it did take me a while to get use to the color tune. God luck to you.
