Hey everyone. I'm new to the site. I own a 1981 750 Seca. The bike is great, however... last summer I put clubman bars on it, and in order for the clutch and throttle cables to work correctly I had to do some crazy wire-routing. It worked fine for a while, but my clutch cable snapped yesterday at the point of connection to the lever. I clearly need shorter cables, and was curious if anyone knew lengths for shorter cables (aka, anyone who has done the same bar swap). I don't want to order shorter cables but have them be too short. Also, I was curious, if I hear a slight valve click, does that mean my valves are out of spec? Because the engine runs and puts out great, but I hear a slight tick at idle. Thanks for any responses. Cheers!

Here's a picture of the bike, just so you can check it out. Bought it for 1000 bucks with 11,000 miles, now its got about 18k.

Noisy valves are better than tight ones; but you should CHECK them to be sure.

Can't be much help on the clutch cable, as I use a Seca 750 cable as a "shorter" cable on my Seca 550s.

If you can solder, and your cable is otherwise unharmed, you can make your own custom-length cable.
There were detailed instructions posted a few months ago - I'll look.

I am surprised Fitz didn't mention this as he is usually so emphatic: valve clearances are supposed to be checked every 5,000 miles ...

Thanks for the replies... Fitz probably didn't say that because, me being so emphatic, I didn't ask how often you are supposed to check valve clearance! I was wondering if they tick, even in spec, because some older bikes are just like that, and I didn't know if this was one of them. Anything 'standard' as far as quirks go for this bike are news to me. I know my bike lurches a tiny bit when being put into first gear, but I've begun to assume that it is normal. Other than that, the slight tick was the only little quirk it seems to have. Soldering the cable... I never thought of that. Pretty brilliant. Definitely something to consider.

Welcome to the site. I put clubmans (upside down) on my 700 Max. Only problem I had was rerouting the clutch cable. It took awhile to find the right way, ended up going around the neck and behind the trees.

So... I ended up buying a stock cable from the factory (about 40 bucks) and found a nice way to route it. My clutch pull is so much lighter than before, it's really unbelievable. Also, as soon as I went to ride it, my starter died. Bought a rebuilt one for about 150 bucks, works amazing. Just wanted to let you guys know thanks very much for the advice and help. This forum is really great.
