Ive looked around the site and found somethings helpful but i can't seem to find a detailed diagram or pictures of how the coils and ignition should all be wired. I've been following the minimum wiring diagram on here im just to a point where ive tried everything from every bit of info i can find and am at a standstill. Are there any experts on here that can give me some advice.
how should the red and white wires for the coils be wired to the ignition and for power? any help would be greatly appreciated

I take it you're talking about your XJ750 Maxim?
I've looked at the minimum wiring diagrams and there are no single red and white wires, but a red/white wire, an orange wire, and a grey wire coming from the coils.
The red/white wire goes to the starter relay or solenoid, the ignition in the fuse box and the TCI or black box ignitor.
That's what i can see, could be wrong, i don't know.

yeah i've done the minimum wiring on my bike, and it all works, the only things i can think you could have gotten mixed up on is where those ignition wires T out, and go to multiple connections. I can't remember the colors and all, but double check the wiring diagram, make sure you got all the splits in the wires correctly done. that and did you get rid of the safety relay?

Send a hot off of the "on" side of the key through a fuse (10 amp according to diagram) then from there wire to the red/white wire out of the solenoid and red/white wire on coils and ignitor unit. badda bing
