85 XJ700N--when I removed my carbs to reset the floats, the bracket shown was hanging on the idle adjustment screw. Don't know how long it has been there, but it's not something I removed and dropped. Anyone know where it might belong?

that looks like the hook you use to support the fuel hose going up to your gas tank. it mounts on the top hat using one of the screws. line it up it will make sense.

Agreed, that's the fuel line keeper on mine. It holds the fuel line parallel with the bottom of the tank right before it bends downward towards the carbs. Let me know if you need a pic.
(I had to bend mine slightly more open to accomodate the hose with the inline fuel filter nipple inside of it.)

Fuel line support makes sense. Got to sync the carbs so I'll look around and see if I can see where it attaches. I guess the guy that originally cleaned the carbs dropped it.

yup, fuel line support. The curl goes up, and and the angled edge goes right next to the the raised side of the cap. Cap bolt holds it in place.
