I'm going to remove the MAC exhaust previous owner had put on and go back to stock. Reason being is you can't rejet the Mikuni's, and it bogs down between 3000 and 5000 during WOT. My concern is the #4 pipe has the #3 part number on it... So it has 2 #3's. I bought the exhaust on Ebay, it came with the pipes still attached to the collector, so I'm pretty sure that's the way it came. Has anyone run into this before?

The Maxim-X part Yamaha part numbers are:

    2 1AA-14621-01-00 PIPE, EXHAUST 2
    3 1AA-14631-01-00 PIPE, EXHAUST 3
4 1AA-14641-01-00 PIPE, EXHAUST 4 far right as you sit on the bike

What do you mean "you can't re-jet the Mikunis?"

I don't have an answer for you on the exhaust.

I've been told that the 85 and 86 XJ 700 Maxim X are the only bikes these Mikuni's were used on and they don't sell different jets. I've talked to 2 different bike shops, one of them I had try to tune them, he told me that, he tried shimming them and that didn't work. I talked to a guy that used to work on them back in the day and he said it needed to have the stock exhaust... If they're wrong tell me. They're model BS33

Nope, the BS33 are correct. You are better off having the stock exhausts on it, that is true, but the mikunis can be rejetted. The thing is, anything apart from stock airbox and exhaust and you can be opening up a can of worms and asking for trouble, rejetting the carbs. It's all hit and miss and can take a lot of hassle working out the rejetting.

check out chacal, our resident parts supplier regarding spares for your bike (click on XJforever at the top of the page, towards the right), He's very reasonable price wise (far cheaper than yamaha bike shops) and gets the parts to you very quickly.

Unfortunately thanks for the info Smurf667, I had a feeling that would be the answer. Btw, I had looked up the exhaust part numbers, that's how I knew I have two #3 pipes.
