Ok, so after 28 years or so I bought some new grips for the Seca. What's the best form of lube to assist sliding them onto the bars? Water? Milk? Coffee? But seriously, what works good and will evaporate so the grips won't slide off?

    Thanks!

Water with a little soap in it always worked for me, but those were bicycle grips :D

The advantage of hair spray (as I discovered) was that when wet, it was slippery enough to allow even double-layered grips such as the GranTurismo's to slide on easily and rapidly. Once you have your grips in place, the hair spray sets up and acts as an awesome glue to hold those grips in place so you don't have to worry about them coming off any time soon.

I used a squirt of blue locktite on the grips on my shadow, seems to be holding up...

    rubbing alcohol - bingo.

    once it evaporates you're golden.

thing is with hairspray is if you ever want to get them off in one piece, you wont be able to. but if you're cool with that, then by all means hair spray will glue them on.

These seem to be all good sugestions.
Rubbing alcohol will leave no trace
Hairspray will leave a light glue
blue locktight will be a b!tch to remove
and soap will fly off in the rain hahaha

Don't go crazy with the locktite and I would think you'd be ok, I had to use a hammer to get them off in the first place.... All the other suggestions seem to be valid though...

I have always liked the glue that comes in the little glass vial with Granturismos. Unfortunately, since they haven't made them in over 30 years, when you find an NOS set the glue is long dried-up.

Then I discovered this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LNPNMQ/ref ... B000LNPNMQ at my local hardware store. It's virtually the same stuff as the glue that came with the GTs. It can also be broken loose with a blast of compressed air if you do need to remove the grips in the future.

Think that stuff will work on the quarter sized caliper inlay Fitz?
Mine popped off in the garage. the back side of the inlay looks better. Just dont know what would work with the heat.

I have never replaced motorcycle grips, but I do work on golf clubs. I use a special two sided tape made for golf grips and wet the inside of the grip and with mineral spirits. The glue on the tape dissolves, gets slimy making the grip easy to slide on, then the mineral spirits evaporate, leaving the grip attached. You can get grip tape at Dick's. They now make a water soluble version of the tape, but I have never tried it. Golf grips usually get cut off, so it may be a fairly permanent attachment.

I believe just mineral spirits would work to lubricate the grip and slide it on.

For that I'd get both surfaces as clean as possible and secure it with a glop of high-temp adhesive RTV (the black automotive stuff.)

I don't know where the Devcon ranks on the "heat resistant" scale but I would use something heavier-duty.

Well I used a bit of soap as it was handy and it was still a bit of a pain but they're on and they seem quite tight. I will of course tread lightly for a bit. Thanks for the tips. :)
