could someone tell me what is supposed to go where? I'm riding a pretty stripped down xj700. I have headlights and tailights and my starter cranks. Problem is, I'm not getting any spark to my coils. I just opened the tc and all the solder points look fine, no rust or burn marks anywhere. heres a picture, if someone could just open it in paint and type what goes where with arrows or something that would help immensely!

I found that second site about 2 hours after my first post about this, and I found the diagram below.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that its not the TCI since I broke it open and see no dry joints or damage. It actually lookas AMAZINGLY good for something that is over 20 years old!

So since the coils get no spark, I'm going to assume first that they are receiving no power. I noticed that I don't have the r/w wire going to the starting circuit relay...I'm assuming thats the solenoid. it has one wire going to starter, one going to positive on battery, and another that just connects the posts on the positive side....i'm suppose to have one going to a r/w wire that is in the tci, but I'm not sure what its for and if it's necesary...any ideas?

Not sure if this helps but there is this from Mr Chacal:

"Remember that the Red wire with the white tracer stripe should always be hot with the key on. The TCI unit grounds the gray and orange wires from the ignition coils. The ignition coils fire when the TCI interrupts the ground.

The tricky part is the TCI un-grounds the gray and orange if there is no signal from the pick up coils for a few seconds. This is to protect the coils from overheating if the key is on and the engine isn't running. So unless you check the Red/white wire to gray (or orange) really quickly, you might get false readings or a mis-diagnosis of the true nature of the problem."

By the way are you working without a wiring diagram?

I am working with a diagram, but my bike has been pretty stripped and the diagram is hard to use because half the crap on it is no longer there. Not to mention I've never done any electrical work before so I've never read a diagram before.

If anyone has a stripped-down version of the xj700 wiring diagram I'd appreciate it!
