i have a 1982 Maxim 650 and im going for the cafe look with my bike i already have started making my own seat cowl out of foam to lay fiberglass on to finish it off but i don't like the stock tank and was wondering if the xj seca 750 cafe looking tank would mount right onto my frame? here is some pictures of progress as well

yes the tank will bolt directly on but it will sit higher in the back and wont flow with the 650 side covers and the original seat doesn't fit quite right if I remember right. But, if your doing your own seat and all it shouldn't be a problem.

here is the back mount point the lower bar sits on the rubber mount and the bottom of the actual tank bottom is above it a bit.

Yup, straight bolt up. I run one on my 650 Maxim. Will have to block off the stock level sender hole, underneath. And, yes, stock side covers will not work. Custom made a set for mine.

Awesome! I'll probably put old racing tins on for the side covers or just custom make some.. Also does anyone know the gear ratio I want just. Tiny little speedo and need to know what the ratio is thanks

2:1 if I remember correctly. I know people are using the mini ones from over at mikesxs.com so might want to take a gander there and see what those are.

I AM CURRENTLY INSTALLING A XS750 TANK ONTO MY BIKE. YOU'LL HAVE TO RELOCATE THE TANK MOUNTS ON THE BIKE AND THE TANK. THE TANKS SLIGHTLY HITS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CENTER TUBE, BUT IT WORKS. YOU CAN SEE THE LOOK ON MY TREAD. PROJECT "SHADOW WARRIOR"

Mild hijack - Has anyone tried fitting a tank from a '80s Suzuki? Particularly the 650/850/1100 "standard" (i.e., not the teardrop-shaped "L" tank that looks like a Maxim tank) shaft-drive versions? I have already read about how the older Honda CB tanks fit and this thread touched on the XS750 (and presumably XS850) tanks but I also like the flat-bottomed, knee-indented Suzuki tank look.
