How far should your chain be form your rear tire on a 82 550

    Hey guys does anyone know how far my chain should be off my tire on a 1982 550 xj maxim.. Thanks

    It depends on what size tire you stuffed in back there. Just make sure your chain runs straight back from the front to rear sprocket and doesn't veer out of alignment. Make sure your back tire runs parallel to the chain. Also make sure that the chain is adjusted to the proper tension.

    the question is sort of obscure or maybe I'm the only one not understanding what you are particularly asking. I adjusted my "free-play" on the the 550 Maxim this past weekend and the book said 1.375 ~ 1.5625 inches IIRC
