I recently changed starters due to first one being stuck. Once I changed the starter the bike would crank and run only when the starter button was depressed. It ran before any ideas?

If I push the start buton th bike fires up unti I let go of the button. I noticed that my old staarter used to always spin even when the bike was running. l changed staarters now this.

If the battery doesn't have a full charge, it will spin the motor, but not have enough juice to fire the engine at the same time. Charge the battery, and have it load tested to see if it is still good.

If the bike only "runs" on the starter, it's not running.

Doesn't really sound starter related. And you're giving us little or nothing to go on.

Ya no crap fitz, let me rephrase for fitz's sake, as I crank the bike over it fire and backfires and what not. It did none of this before, could I have a coil out or possibly a tcu causing the masfiring? I have spares of both. Happy 4th to all even the ol crank fitz. :)

How long did it sit between running? Sounds starved for fuel, did you change anything else during the starter work?

Low voltage will cause the solenoid contacts to fuse together, which causes the starter to run with the engine, causing the starter to burn up or blow up.
Could also be a short in the ignition which is what I'm thinking your problem is. Could be that the starting circuit is shorted to the running circuit which would keep the starter going after the motor cranks.
