    I rebuilt the carbuerators and did an oil change, it runs great for about 20 seconds and oil pours out of the airbox at a steady pace. Does this mean I have air in the lines? Any thoughts from anyone who knows?
    Thanks

    You have a stuck float in a carb. It is filling the crankcase and mixing with the oil.
    Does the oil smell like gas? Or did you overfill with oil?

    well I put 4 quarts into it when I refilled it. I made sure the floats were good and clear of any obstructions when I cleaned them out. They all seemed to function up and down freely but maybe I missed something.

    WHOA.

    Four quarts is wayy to much. Depending on the bike, it takes around 2 1/2 quarts.

    WHICH BIKE?

    On your clutch cover, adjacent to the oil filler, is a number, "2X00CM3."

    X= either 2, 3, 4 or 5 depending on the bike. "CM3" means CC's.

    So depending on whether your bike says 2200, 2300, 2400 or 2500, you need 2.2 liters, 2.3L, 2.4L or 2.5L. Plus MAYBE 200CCs extra to keep the level at the top of the window.

    You overfilled it, big time.

    Oh; and do some research. There is a lot more to float levels than whether the floats move up and down ok. http://www.xj4ever.com/setting%20fuel%20levels.pdf

    That’s way too much oil mate; the correct amount should be cast into the engine case next to the oil filling hole. It could also be your float heights or sticking float, if its neat oil then leave the carbs, drop the oil and measure out the correct amount and refill. If like Mlew said it smells strongly of petrol or the oil is thinner and a strange colour to normal check out the carb floats, if this is the problem it may be necessary to do a couple of oil and filter changes in the next few 100 miles to get rid of any petrol residue in the motor.
    Best of luck and hope this helps.

    Im trying to bring it back to life after its been sitting for years. I had a key made and am looking for the correct gas tank. Quite a project but I appreciate this resource from people who know what they are doing.

    Then it might be more like 3.2L. Check the little number on the clutch cover; like we said, the "CM3" means CC's.

    yeah, its 2500cm3 so its only 2,1/2 quarts. Im going to get another oil filter and give it a shot. If it still doesnt want to function, then I will take the carbs apart. Thanks for the advice all.

    If the oil doesn't smell like gas, then I don't think you need another new oil filter. Probably a new air filter. I replace the oil filter every other time, plus since I got my bike I've changed oil more often to get old crud out.
