she ran she ran!!!! like a champ too!!!!!i been tryin everything and i put some seafoam in a couple days ago and nothin till now i let it idle for about 5min and same 2 pipes were getting hot then 3 pipes then out of nowhere the idle picked up and all four pipes were hot! i could rev to the moon now. then it crapped oil all over my new driveway:( the oil is leaking from the air box i think????? the box that goes into the carbs. from a small hole that im not sure if its supposed to be there or have a screw in it or what? help! :D 8O :x

Does the oil smell like fuel? If it does, sounds like the float level in at least one of the carbs is letting too much fuel in. Or bad petcock. It is possible the seafoam clered up some clogs in the fuel system somewhere. Just need to find out where. May have a fload valve stuck open too. If not then probably over full on oil. Oil level should be towards the higher mark on the site glass. Glad you got it running on all four.

You have to watch out with seafaom on these older bikes, have to put it in a little weak, I ran some through my 77 goldwing, First two tanks it was getting better and better running, and the third tank every thing rubber leaked, petcock, carbs, and fuel pump, pulled the carbs apart and every thing rubber looks like it desolved,

Sometimes seafoam works a little too good, expecially on older rubber.

    Gearhead,
I don't think it's te Seafoam that caused your leaks. If that was the case, my bikes would be leaking like a screen door. My freinds and I all use it for stabilizing their fuel during winter and never had a leak problem. If you gaskets started to leak, it was from something else.

    Three things come to mind.
    1. Over-servicing with oil, remember 2.3 liters or so if memory serves.
    2. Cracked ring, not a good thing.
    3. The crank-case baffle is not in place, thus allowing oil mist to pass easily into the airbox.
The hole in the airbox is there for the very purpose it is performing. Do Not plug it. It allows oil/water/fuel to drain out in the event that you manage to get something in the airbox (like when you inadvertently direct your water hose at the intake port on the box while washing the beast, short story but it happens).
I'm hoping for #1 and #3, in that order.

i changed the oil and there was a ton of it!!!!!!! even after 3 puddles in the driveway! ok so when the bike is cold it will idle for a bit and then boom its out of its funk where it wont rev past 2k rpm and its ready to go. it will rev to the moon. then it gets really hot really quick (temp gauge will get close to the red in about 20min or less) and soon the idle will stay around 2k again and wont rev anymore????????????????????

oh and another thing the fuel light goes on and off randomly. and the idle jumps all over the place from time to time?
