Im tearing down the brakes. so far I tied one piston off hooked caliper up to master cylinder. pumpped up the break lever used pressure to push one piston out. I then took out the seals and dust cover as stated in xj manual instructions..slid the piston back in caliper housing , tied it off . began to repeat procedure to push opposite piston out, but it wont budge. It tries to push the piston That i took out previously. What am I doing wrong or need to do to conquer this task. Thanx in advance for any help given. ridz

Use a c -clamp to hole the other piston in place so you can push out the one you want.

If you put a big socket inside the piston and a washer (if needed) over the square opening of the socket; you can get the C-clamp on there with the handle on the outside to tighten it all down.

Slip something in to protect the Caliper Logo from getting marred by the C-clamp.

Me thinks you need "my" c -clamp! Wish I was there to hand it to you, but Rick's idea should work also. Other than that you could place a board between the brake pads to stop their movement.

Last week I rebuilt the calipers on my XJ and I used the air compressor to pop the pistons out. I had to set it to 150psi but they came out.

thanx for help guyz..rick I get your train of thought, on that subject.
    That should work.

I dont have the pads on the caliper..i pulled the pads and reassembled caliper. tied one piston down with nylon zips.

tried the compressor first and it did nt work for me. so I reassembledetc..

thanx for the insight all..rick Ill try that method tomorrow...

    Thanx ridz.
