So im still new to this forum and bike mods period, but i just aquired a 1982 XJ 750 maxim and wanted to put some clubman or super bars on it and ran into alittle issue... after pulling the old bars off, i noticed that their not the same "two clamp" bars that most are. After kicking it around in my head a few minutes, i dropped to down the top triple tree and was gonna do clip-ons. I dont think ill like that look so was wondering does anyone have a better option??

    Welcome!!

Get a triple tree off an 83 maxim 750 and swap it out. While uou'te at it, replace the head tube bearings with a set of tapered roller bearings availible from Len at info@xj4ever.com

They're about 44 bucks and you'll never have to replace em again. Plus you'll lose a few balls from the original headset anyway.

The 83 triple tree has standard clamps for 7/8" bars.

However, also important to note, the master cylinder/brake lever assembly will need to be swapped out with one from a 750/900 seca as the mount is too cranked to accommodate the pull back style bars and the original mc won't like sitting at such an angle and you'll run into problems.

Also, if you run different bars, your're going to want bar end mirrors as the original mirrors/mounts will be useless on a flatter bar.

Just to let you what's all involved ;)

    Good luck!!

Here's a triple tree that will work, the midnight stuff is all the same with just a different color on some stuff. Parts such as this are identical.

Just need to cut off the races when you install the new tapered bearings.

The bearings from Len come with a great set of instructions

MBC55 and others, the races you refer to don't need to be cut off, just use a chiesel to pry it up to get it off. If you are referring to the race at the bottom of the steering neck just above the lower tripple clamp.
