Hi, all! Having a problem with my lights on an '81 xj750R Seca. Last night i went to ride home, only to discover that my lights never turned on. Nor could i get them too with some jiggling and tapping. Nothing to my knowledge of signifigance has happened to it since the night before when it was working fine. yesterday it was alittle chilly, around 30 degrees and snowed lightly. if that has anything to do with it.

Heres the weird part. The computer does not light the warning light for the headlamp, and the aux. light does not work either. Almost as if the relay was stuck... But wouldnt that trip the warning light, as it would not be drawing current with the bike running??

If anyone has had a problem like this and knows the fix that would be greatly appreciated... as i do not have time to pick up my multi meter till tomorrow... sigh

    thanks in advance!
    -Brian

The headlight warning bulb might be burnt out, as well as theheadlight.

there is only one bulb for all warnings, its computer controlled. and i know it works, because it comes on everytime i start hte bike, due to missing battery sensor.

I did check the fuse, and it was blown. However, upon replacement it worked for a while, then blew again. so there is some underlying problem that needs fixing. I'm not sure where to start exactly, but i guess ill sjtu check all connections, and clean all the terminals. and inspect for damaged wires.

    thanks for the responses

Start at the fuse box and ohm back to the headlight socket. Check for ground isolation as well. If everything checks out, then you might have an issue between the battery and the fuse box, but that is usually not the case. Heck, I got my baby because the fella pinched the kill switch wire in the control cluster after he replaced the handle bars after he dropped the bike. Has anything on the bike been disturbed? Good place to start hunting. Good luck buddy!

i had a similar problem, and after tearing my hair out it turned out to be the fuse. It looked fine but checking the continuity the fuse was broken at one of the ends of the caps. i would change out the fuse just in case.
