I put a half assed carb rebuild on my 700 Maxim X, was not sure bike would run, so bike runs, it idle ok and top end seems ok but falls on its face on the bottom end, once you get it up a few hundred rpm it is ok. I turned the pilot screw, didn't seem to help, had a hard time putting the diaphragms in the carbs could it be them

Why was it hard to fit the diaphragms ? had you taken them off the slides ?

Check your valve clearances; then do a compression test. There could be something actually wrong; that will rule it out or confirm it.
