Hello Everyone.. Just thought i'd introduce myself,
    My name is Lindsey,
    i have a 1982 Yamaha Maxim XJ550 motorcycle..
I bought this bike from my dad last year, and he never had any problems with it.. i get the bike and the carbs had to be replaced, new battery, sparks plugs replaced..
ugh it was bad, and i had bought it from him in June and didn't get to ride it until the end of july..
But during the time my bike was in the shop for various reasons, i took my motorcycle safety course (never ridden a bike until this time) bought my jacket, and helmet and everything so it was good time spent while waiting
But anyway i degress, I'm orginally from NW Ohio, but i joined the Coast Guard right out of High School three years ago, and i'm currently living in Two Rivers WI (thats NE WI)

I'm 21 (yea drinking age!!) i do lots of things in my spare time but mostly i go Geocaching (if you don't know what that is, don't worry you're not the first one) its a High Tech Treasure hunt pretty much you use Multi-billion dollar satilates to look for tubberwear in the woods..

but now i'm rambling and going to sign off now... I love the fact i found this site, and hope you guys can all give me advice on things, and answer my questions if i have any (which i do as i'm gong to be fixing up my bike to make it all pretty and such)
If anyone lives in NE Wisconsin area and wants to get together for a ride i'm all up for it!! being in the Coast Guard its tough meeting local people you actually want to meet!! Anyway thanks for reading my rambling and talk to you all soon!

Welcome to the site - all things XJ related live here

Geocaching is cool - just haven't been able to convince myself to put out the bucks for a good GPS to use on the bike/in the car... would love to get a TomTom Rider or a Garmin Zumo 550

Wow, you don't run into many Coasties. You get a chance to go overseas? I've seen a few Coasties in Afghanistan of all places... it's landlocked.

Marines, on the other hand are everywhere. Or maybe it just seems like we're everywhere with our tendency to put stickers all over our cars.

When you hit the bar: Jagerbombs = bad. Bacardi 151 and Coke is great.

    Welcome, Lindsey!

Not that it matters to anyone here, and please don't be offended, but am I correct in assuming you are female?

You've come to the right place to get (and keep) your XJ singing a sweet song. There are a lot of folks who frequent this site with a lot of practical experience, and they're all willing to patiently share it with us newbies.

Welcome again, and best wishes for many miles of smiles in your future!

    Herb

Too bad you didn't find us before taking the bike into the dealer. If you like to wrench, I'm sure we could have saved you a few bucks.

Regardless, glad to hear you are on the road!

    Lindsey:

There have been several female XJers over the past year or so that I've been on board (EmeraldPrincess, LadyDeTour, etc.), but I'm not sure if any of them are still active.

LadyDeTour posted only one time, I think, and a new member responded in an ungentlemanly fashion. The moderators (and several members) told him to clean it up or leave, but the damage may have been done, as I don't think she ever posted again. (I don't think the offender was around for very long either.)

So I hope you get your XJ running soon, and I look forward to seeing many posts from you in the future as y'all get acquainted.

    Take care-
    Herb

I really enjoyed EmeraldPrincess. As I recall, she found out she didn't have an XJ. Said she hoped we'd still accept her. Universal welcome whatever you ride. Then she never posted again.

There is another lady was posting here. Way North in Ontario. Maybe she's still posting to the snowmobile sites.........

    wolfmajor!

wolfmajor was the only one who came to my first Carb Clinic. She stripped the Carbs of her Max-X and was ahead of me all--day ... overhauling the entire set and not getting panic stricken when we drilled-out a Pilot Screw.

By the way she was moving and wenching on her own ... I'm pretty sure she could Clean, Clean-tune, Bench sync, run sync and ColorTune all on her own.

She passed my Hitachi qualifications course inside of an afternoon.
I hope she comes by to visit ... I have a brand new ColorTuner!

I'll just open the door to my little shop and toolboxes and try not to get in her way!

Not sure what "vodika" is, but vodka I am well versed in... what's your fav? I'm partial to Nemiroff, but it's hard to find stateside. Belvedere will work, though. Smirnoff is a good mixer, as is pretty much anything. Vodka and OJ, vodka and gatorade, vodka and mountain dew...

Can't do Grey Goose, tastes like rubbing alchohol. I guess that's what you get when Russians and Ukrainians teach you to drink vodka.

    Do svedahniya.

    Welcome Lindsey,

I've done some Geocaching, but not much. No real reason not to - I'm a GPS geek and I love the outdoors. I've had a few ideas to combine geocaching and flying, but haven't followed through on any of them.

Out of curiosity, what do you do for the Coast Guard? Thanks for your service, by the way. I hope I never need you guys, but I'm glad to know you're there.

I've never gotten up to Two Rivers, though I've flown in to Manitowoc. There's got to be some beautiful riding up that way.

Be safe and have fun. Big ups on getting your safety gear and training while waiting on the bike repairs, BTW.

    oblivion,
i love geocaching.. actually i'm obsessed with it.. hmm oh well!
in the coast guard.. i do many different things, i clean, and well clean.. and oh yea clean!

ok not really but sometimes it feels like it.. I'm a crewmember i pretty much do everything on the boat that doesn't have to do with the engines.. umm well what else oh i'm a boarding team member (law enforcement part of it) and thats about it..

flying and geocaching.. thats an interesting combo, never heard of it being done, must keep me updated on how that goes..
Thanks for the ups on the safety thing, dad wouldn't bring the bike up until i was at least enrolled in the class, i'm glad i did it. i learned good habits at the class.

Yes its a gorgous area up here, i love going out into the country and ride its the best, only crappy thing right now is the rain.. hopefully tomorrow it will be nice for a nice long ride..

If you ever do get up here shoot me an email and maybe we can get together for a ride, or to go geocaching if you fly up here.. Thanks again!
