I rewired my mess of a starter button and kill switch today, with tremendous help from FrankenSeca and she tries to start with it now. I realized that I left the (starter circuit relay?) out of the harness. When I try to start her it sounds like when you leave the kickstand down or kill switch off, it tries but doesn't fire.

I have the circuit that was near the back of the gas tank but don't see any loose wires that it would've ran to. It has two red/whites, one light blue, and one black/white that didn't go anywhere because it's cut off too short to do anything with. Can anyone explain to me, as simply as possible, where these went?

Also I've been starting her everyday by shorting across the starter relay/solenoid with a screwdriver, but it didn't work this morning, nor does it work now. It's like there's no gas getting to it, but there is. It's a maxim.

Mine's an '82 750 Maxim, and it has a fuel float in the tank for the gauge...I'll look tomorrow and see what color...seems people like to cut them off rather than find the disconnects...that's where my mystery wires went, 2 of them anyway...

Prolly would help to know exactly what year/model you have though.

I had to disable my interlocks for both sidestand and clutch to get mine cranking and running...see if any of this sounds familiar. I'll give credit to the member who gave me this great info...soon as I remember his name...LOL...sorry, my memory sucks...

"Bypass starter safeties by disconnecting red/white wire at solenoid and replacing that connection with a fused 12V+ supply that's hot when main switch is "on." The starter cut-out safety is on this positive side, so this will completely bypass it. Remember to insulate the loose red/white wire so it can't short to ground and blow a fuse. The blue/white wire from the solenoid goes to the start button which completes the circuit to ground when pressed--no need to mess with that."

"Bypass kickstand safety by disconnecting the black/white wire from the TCI; there's probably a bullet plug conveniently located near it for this purpose. The black/white wire simply grounds-out the TCI when the safety takes over. It's OK to just leave it unhooked, but insulate the black/white wire where it comes out of the TCI, so it can't find ground and kill the spark."

Thanks for the reply, mine is an '82 maxim 750 also. I don't have kickstand or clutch safeties. I thought I had narrowed my starting problem down to this relay but I got some more info and there are a couple different things I need to try tomorrow.

Have you got a manual or access to a wiring diagram?

Does anyone have labeled pictures of a starter, starter relay, and starter circuit? They would help me greatly about now
