I'm going to visit the USA soon from the great white north. I would like to pick up some Kriol as a souvenir. Major store names would make it easer to find.

As far as I know you can only get it through their web site. I order two cans earlier this year and as a bonus they sent a can of spray Kroil as well.

Online seems to be the only place I can find it. What part of the states are you going to?

X2 on a member ordering you some if you can't find any elsewhere.

The alternative to Kroil is......automatic. transmission fluid and acetone mixed in a jar, place lid on jar to stop it evaporating..... Just brush a bit of the mixture on and let sit for a while. This is "Fair Dinkum".

I should maybe post this under the "Techical"section.

Some of you might appreciate this. Machinist's Workshop magazine tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts.

They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist, Bud Baker.

They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.

    Penetrating oil ..... Average load

    None ...................... 516 pounds

    WD-40 ................... 238 pounds

    PB Blaster ............... 214 pounds

    Liquid Wrench ......... 127 pounds

    Kano Kroil .............. 106 pounds

    ATF-Acetone mix.......53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.

lostboy, where are you crossing into the USA? If you're coming into lower Michigan, we can work something out.

I had trouble locating it locally here in South Dakota as well. I couldn't find it in any big name stores but through searching the internet I discovered that gun enthusiasts like it for cleaning and lubricating firearms as well. I found a can at the local gun shop but it was waaaay more expensive than ordering direct online. I payed around $20 for a large spray can.

I live in Nashville where their lab is located and you don't see it in stores here. We use it at work but I don't know where we buy it.
