    Ok, before we get into specifics, answer Mavs question, what are you looking for at the end of the build?
    Then we need to know is it titled in your name, does it run really well and I don't mean it starts and runs.
    First thing to do is check the valve clearances, clean the carbs, set the floats (wet) then balance and sync the carbs. Replace the old rubber brake lines and tires if they are old, pull the rear brake and check for delamination and replace as necessary.
    Once all this is done, and the bike is licenced, insured and can be ridden reliably, then consider "Mods".
    Until then, you are cutting, hacking, fabricating and putting money in a bike that may end up as a 500lb paper weight.
