Looking for a set of factory horns for my X. Anyone have any or know of any? I also would seriously consider aftermarket if I can find some that resemble the X style horns. Currently have button style but prefer the original style, Thanks

The LOUDEST horns you will find.

    Magnum Blasters[IMG]

A good runner up ( I have these and they are quite loud as well, but not quite Magnum Blaster loud).

Actually, the Stebel Nautilus (& Compact) are slightly louder - the Magnum is 136db, the Nautilus are 139db.

The Nautilus Compact is just a bit larger than a deck of cards, is a dual-tone horn, and a big favorite with many motorcyclists -- that's what I'm saving up for. I'm told it sounds exactly like a semi coming up on you. Oh - and it comes in all black, as well as the pictured chrome.

Plus you only have to mount one horn, and get the dual-tones.

I know that as we speak there are nofactory original horns on ebay for the maxim x, but try looking at parts for 1985 thru 1996 yamaha viragos. Both, the 700,750, and even the virago 1000,and 1100 had the same style horns as the maxim x. Good luck!

Will those Magnum blasters actually fit inside the Maxim-X? The spot is really tight.

I'm actually missing one horn, and the one that's left is so weak. I feel really naked without it. If I get into trouble, that horn isn't doing me any good.

Hey Altus, where would one acquire those Stebel horns that you're referring to? Or are those what are listed on the HornsPlus website?

You can get them all over online - officially they're called "Stebel Nautilus Compact" and their available in either the chrome like above, or simple all black. Note that it's a really small air horn - compressor and all. I've even seen one install of it where they separated the compressor from the horn and mounted them in different locations.

They're on ebay pretty frequently too.

I would still go with the Magnum Blaster, as I have read that the performance of air pumps can go off quite a bit after awhile.

Okay, how does the Magnum Blaster attach? Will it bolt up to the stock frame mount or are brackets required to be fabricated, etc.?

Only problem with the Magnum's is that their single-tone horns, so to get the really noticeable tone you need to mount both the high & low. On the upside, apparently if you do mount both, it ups their sound rating to the same 139db.
Of course, you're now talking twice the current draw and wiring too....

I've done a bunch of research of the Nautilus' - and so far no one's complained online of the compressor having issues. I did see one guy lose his relay to weather corrosion - but nothing with the compressor. And I've seen some that have been on heavy-duty touring guys (ie all weather and lots of it) bikes for the last 2 years and still going strong....

Note that the Fiamm's are electrical and the Stebel Nautilus is a compressor driven horn. I have the Fiamms on my 650 Seca, the Stebel on my Kaw Voyager. The difference? It's not the sound, both are sufficiently loud. The electric horn sound is immediate, the air horn has a brief delay, it could be as small as 1/4 or 1/2 second, but there is a delay. I can't lightly toot the air horn.

I left one of the two original horns on the Kaw and replaced the other with the Stebel (relay and all), so I have a little toot, but it's just too little.

Hmmmm... that's the first time I've heard of anyone saying they've got a delay with the Nautilus -- everyone else I've read who's got one says it's instantaneous. Do you have the old larger Nautilus, or the newer Compact version? All my research was for the Compact.
